Last updated: 4 June 2026

New Zealand Solar Centre ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through our website at nzsolaris.co.nz and our online tools, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have.

We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Information Privacy Principles it sets out. By using our website, tools and services, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information we collect

We collect personal information that you choose to give us, and some information automatically when you use our website.

Information you provide

  • Your name, email address and phone number.
  • Your property address and details about your property and energy use, such as roof type, your average power bill, intended system size, and your mortgage or finance situation, where you enter these into our quote forms and tools.
  • Any other information you include when you contact us, request a quote, or use our calculators and lead-magnet tools.

Information we collect automatically

  • Your IP address, general location, and device and browser type.
  • The website or search that referred you to us, and any associated search keywords or campaign information.
  • Pages you view and how you interact with our site, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

2. How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you when you complete a form, use one of our tools, verify your email address, or contact us by phone or email. We also collect some information automatically as you browse, and we may receive information from third parties such as advertising and analytics platforms, and from the independent installers we work with.

Where it is reasonable and practicable to do so, we collect personal information directly from you. Providing your information is voluntary, but if you choose not to provide it we may be unable to prepare a quote or connect you with an installer.

3. How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Prepare and provide solar quotes, and generate finance, cost, ROI and tariff estimates you request through our tools.
  • Verify your identity using a one-time code sent to your email.
  • Connect you with vetted, independent solar installers who can quote and complete your project.
  • Respond to your enquiries and provide customer support.
  • Operate, maintain, analyse and improve our website, tools and services.
  • Send you information or offers you have asked for or agreed to receive.
  • Meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

4. When we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:

  • Independent installer partners, so they can contact you and prepare a quote for the project you have requested.
  • Service providers who help us operate our business (see the next section).
  • Regulators, law enforcement or other parties where we are required or authorised to do so by law, or to protect our rights, property or safety, or those of others.
  • A purchaser or successor if our business or assets are wholly or partly sold, merged or reorganised.

5. Service providers and storage

We use trusted third parties to help deliver our services, including email delivery, SMS messaging, address lookup and mapping, website hosting, and analytics. These providers only handle your information to perform services for us and are required to keep it secure.

Some of these providers may store or process information on servers located outside New Zealand. Where information is held overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected by comparable safeguards to those required under the Privacy Act 2020.

6. Cookies and tracking

Cookies are small files stored on your device that help our website function and let us understand how it is used. We use them to keep the site working, remember your progress through our tools, and measure and improve performance using analytics tools such as Google Analytics.

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. If you disable cookies, some parts of our website and tools may not work as intended.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. How long we keep it

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or for as long as required by law. When we no longer need it, we will securely delete it or remove the details that identify you.

9. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before we act on your request, and in limited cases the law may allow us to withhold some information.

10. Marketing and opt-out

If you have agreed to receive marketing from us, you can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us directly. We will still send you essential messages relating to a quote or service you have requested.

12. Children's privacy

Our services are intended for homeowners and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
